Then she turned her attention to boxing. Tonya was a professional boxer by 2003. When she first began being featured on television shows as well as in films, Tonya's popularity grew. Tonya became famous across the country following the incident of 1994 where Nancy Kerrigan attacked in a mysterious manner just before her "National championship." She took advantage of her popularity and fame to the point that she was able to alter the story of women's figure skating. The life of Tonya and her achievements have been a subject in many academic studies. Tonya was also the subject of a 2017 biopic titled 'I, Tonya.'
